I'm bound for the promise land....

This weekend I shall run an epic journey!!! 34 miles, 9000ft of vertical climbing. I'm so excited about my first promise land 50k. The entire experience promises to hold adventure, heartbreak, joy, pain, and comraderie.

I'm so excited about camping, fellowship... seeing old friends, making new friends.. and getting those finisher shorts!!!

I made a little video of pictures from the PL course ( I got from google images so thank you to everyone who's pictures I borrowed) and I set to the tune of "on jordan's stormy banks". When Marc Griffin and I ran over the course 2 weeks ago, this tune was stuck in my head and on replay. I first heard this hymn when I was in school as a child. I went to a private Presbyterian school in Richlands, VA. and they played many traditional hymns. I was very interested in the history behind these songs and learned that this tune was written in the 1800's and very popular among troops fighting the Civil War ( both union and confederate). The version of the song I used in the video is from Bobby Horton's ( no relation to david horton) "HOMESPUN SONGS OF FAITH" which is a compilation of Hymns from the 1860's.
"OH, WHO WILL COME AND GO WITH ME? I'M BOUND FOR THE PROMISE LAND!!!"

Oh Jenny, Thank you so very much. I have always loved that hymn and it is so fitting for what we will be doing tomorrow. I can tell you what will be playing in my mind as we climb up and down those mountains. See you tonight.
